Successful WFSICCM 2015 in Seoul, Korea
The 12th WFSICCM (World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine) congress has been a great success. About 3,000 physicians and nurses from 81 countries attended this congress. More than 45 pharmaceutical and medical device companies attended the exhibition.
This WFSICCM was themed “One Step Further: The Pursuit of Excellence in Critical Care”. It differed from previous events in that the organizing committee created opportunities for medical professionals from all countries. They organized a “Step-up Session,” in which physicians and nurses from countries with limited medical resources had the opportunity to present their experiences, cases and research to the expert group.
It was also a good opportunity to give wider publicity to Maquet’s ICU products and the brand imagery to the limited areas. There was a special joint symposium with the World Health Organization (WHO) in relation to Ebola and Middle East Respiratory System (MERS). The team could show that Maquet provides a full range of advanced life-saving solutions for these critically ill patients.
Maquet presented well recognized products such as SERVO ventilators, CARDIOHELP portable heart-lung support and CARDIOSAVE intra-aortic balloon pumps. The products that attracted the most attention at the booth were the new SERVO-U and SERVO-air ventilators, NAVA (neurally adjusted ventilatory assist) therapy, and the advanced monitoring solutions: PiCCO hemodynamic monitoring and EIRUS continuous monitoring of glucose and lactate.
Maquet sponsored one workshop session: Adult Extracorporeal Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ECLS) Course. Dr. Jung and Dr. Kim from Korea University Medical Center taught the workshop and gave a basic understanding of ECMO management. ROTAFLOW Systems with PLS sets and SERVO-i ventilators were used for the simulation. The workshop was well attended; 24 visitors from eight countries (Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Singapore, South Africa and the United States) participated.
Overall, this exhibition was successful to showcase Maquet’s full range of advanced lifesaving solutions and strength in intensive care.
