New hybrid theater at The Royal Oldham Hospital, Oldham near Manchester, UK
A new high-tech hybrid operating theater has been completed at The Royal Oldham Hospital in the UK. This state-of-the-art environment offers the latest high-definition intraoperative diagnostic and treatment options for vascular, trauma and neurosurgery to improve patient care. GE Healthcare supplied, installed and commissioned the scanner, while Maquet supplied the new theater light and pendants. The conversion to the hybrid theater was completed within a very tight program of only three months, while keeping the remaining suite operational at all times.
The new surgical theater is equipped with an advanced medical imaging scanner, ensuring that patients can undergo imaging and surgical procedures simultaneously. Imaging is now available at all times during invasive surgical procedures such as aneurysm repair, peripheral arterial and venous revascularization, and management of gastrointestinal bleeding.
The new Maquet POWERLED™ operating lights are equipped with LEDs that render natural and faithful colors and generate no shadows or overheating, ideal for this type of invasive vascular procedures carried out at the hospital. The two compact PLG II ceiling supply units can be conveniently and precisely positioned and provide both lateral and vertical movement, with an extended coverage to provide further flexibility.
The first patient to have surgery in the new theater was treated for a large abdominal aortic aneurysm. The patient was successfully discharged the day after this major operation.
